Before we dive into the details, check out this quick video showing how easy and fun it is to make Halloween Chocolate Bark with kids:

Ingredients:

  • *Note: These don't need to be exact! It's what works for us and what we like, but one of the best things about this recipe is how customizable it is!

  • 24 oz (680g) semi-sweet chocolate chips

  • 1 cup candy corn

  • 1 cup M&Ms (Halloween colors)

  • 1 cup chocolate-covered pretzels, broken into pieces

  • 1/2 cup white chocolate chips

  • 1/4 cup candy eyes

Supplies/Tools:

  • Large microwave-safe bowl

  • Rubber spatula

  • Baking sheet (with lip)

  • Parchment paper

  • Measuring cups

  • Refrigerator

Instructions:

  1. Line your baking sheet with parchment paper. This is a great task for kids to help with!

  2. Melt the chocolate:

    • Pour the chocolate chips into a large microwave-safe bowl.

    • Microwave in 30-second intervals on 50% power, stirring between each interval.

    • Continue until the chocolate is smooth and fully melted...up to 2-3 minutes total, but it can vary depending on your microwave. That's why it's important to stir and check between each interval!

    • Safety tip for parents: Always supervise children around hot chocolate and handle the warm bowl yourself.

  3. Pour the melted chocolate onto the parchment-lined baking sheet. Use your rubber spatula to spread it evenly, about 1/4 inch thick. Let your kids help with spreading, but be cautious as the chocolate will be warm.

  4. Decorating time! While the chocolate is still melted, let your children sprinkle on the toppings:

    • Candy corn

    • M&Ms or similar
    • Broken chocolate-covered pretzels

    • White chocolate chips

    • Candy eyes - encourage them to create spooky faces or Halloween patterns!

  5. Gently press the toppings into the chocolate to ensure they stick.

  6. Refrigerate the bark until it's completely hardened, about 1-2 hours.

  7. Once hardened, break or cut the bark into pieces. Parents should handle this step for younger children.

  8. Enjoy!!!

Variations to Try:

  • White chocolate base with colorful Halloween sprinkles

  • Dark chocolate with orange-colored white chocolate drizzle

  • Add crushed Halloween Oreos or other themed cookies

  • Incorporate fall flavors like cinnamon chips or dried cranberries

Storage and Gifting:

Your Halloween Chocolate Bark should stay fresh in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week, or in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. It makes a great homemade gift for teachers, neighbors, or party hosts. Let your kids help package the bark in cellophane bags tied with festive ribbons!

Enjoy!
