Transform Simple Lollipops into Adorable Witches and Witch Brooms with This Halloween Party-Perfect Tutorial

Looking for the perfect Halloween party or classroom craft that's adorable, easy to make, and such a treat?! These witch broom lollipops are about to become your go-to Halloween craft! I was inspired to try these after seeing kelly.oester's tutorial: she transformed ordinary lollipops into magical witch broom treats.

Whether you're a room parent planning a class Halloween party, a mom wanting to send special treats to school, or just looking for a fun Halloween craft to do at home, these witch broom lollipops check all the boxes - they're quick, budget-friendly, and super cute without requiring any special crafting skills!

Why Witch Broom Lollipops Are the Perfect Halloween Treat

Why Teachers and Parents Love These Treats

Let me tell you something about Halloween parties: teachers (and party hosts!) appreciate treats that are individually wrapped, easy to distribute, and don't create a big mess. Witch broom lollipops hit all these marks perfectly! Plus they're so easy to transport, and kids can easily save them for later.

Fine Motor Skill Development

Creating their own witch broom lollipops naturally builds important developmental skills through every step of the crafting process:

  • Pincer grasp (important for pencil grip!) and finger dexterity when twisting the black tissue paper and cupcake liner onto the lollipop sticks
  • Hand strength from tying twine knots and securing ribbon
  • Tool use with scissors when cutting the twine and tulle into strips, and with a ruler when measuring twine and tulle lengths
  • Pressure regulation tying knots tight but not TOO tight that materials rip

Following Multi-Step Directions

Making these witch broom lollipops requires sequential thinking and has so many cognitive benefits:

  • Memory skills to remember the step order
  • Planning abilities by gathering materials before starting
  • Problem-solving when something doesn't work as expected
  • Attention span to stay focused through completion

Math and Counting Practice

Witch broom lollipops offer natural math learning opportunities throughout the entire crafting process:

  • One-to-one correspondence: counting treats and recipients
  • Measurement: cutting consistent lengths of tulle and twine

Step-by-Step Witch Broom Lollipop Tutorial

Set Up Supply Stations

Since there are specific materials used for the two types of lollipops, I like to set up a "witch" supplies station and a "broom" supplies station.

Creating the Witch Lollipops

Now for the fun part - making the adorable witch lollipops

Step 1: Place a lollipop in the center of a black tissue rectangle. Gather the tissue just below the candy and twist it around the lollipop stick, creating a little witch "body" or dress. The tissue will naturally drape down around the stick!

Step 2: Place a strip of black tulle behind the lollipop, just below the candy, and tie tightly to secure the tissue paper. Instant witch cape! Make sure it's secure but not so tight that it tears the tissue.

Step 4: Place a miniature witch hat on top of the lollipop!

Creating the Broom Lollipops

Now onto the perfect match for the witch lollipops!

Step 1: "Close" the cupcake liner and flatten it: it should look like a flat half-circle.

Step 2: Place the lollipop candy in the middle of the flat half-circle, and then fold each side of the cupcake liner over the lollipop.

Step 3: Twist the cupcake liner gently around the lollipop stick, forming a full, rounded broom shape!

Step 4: Take your pre-cut twine and wrap it tightly around the gathered cupcake liner. Tie a secure double knot or a bow.

Your Turn to Play!

So there you have it - everything you need to create these adorable witch broom lollipops! Whether you make the cute little witches, the classic brooms, or both, your kids are going to absolutely love them. And here's the best part - while you're creating these Halloween treats, you're also building fine motor skills, practicing measuring, and making memories with your little ones. Now go make some Halloween magic happen, mama - you've totally got this! 🎃✨
